Too busy for school!

Students say all kinds of things that make me laugh, but this made my jaw drop.
Actual conversation with middle school student:

Me:  Hey, just checking in to make sure you got your makeup assignment.  Did [your homeroom teacher] give it to you?  Any questions?

Student:  Uuummmmm, yeah. . . huh, do I have to do that?

Me:  Uuuuummm yes!  You've been absent several weeks.

Student:  Uuummmmm, yeah. . .it's just that . . .I'm really busy right now. . .

Me:  *mouth flopping like a fish*
