Op Art with Colored Pencils
Finally some artwork to show you! I snagged this idea from One Crayola Short, which is a totally awesome art blog that I stumbled upon sometime over the summer. While this project does take a while, it's fun to start the year studying Optical Illusion Art. It's such a crazy art genre, kids can't help but love it.
Parents hate to hear this, but projects like this really do turn out better with the more expensive Prismacolor Pencils. However, my kids are little and tend to drop or eat things they shouldn't, so I have hesitated to let them use the Prismacolor pencils. I've found that these Sargent Art Colored Pencils (great deal on Amazon) are good quality but more reasonably priced for small children.
Here are links to other versions of this project, followed by some of my 4th and 5th graders' work. We added a coordinating construction paper mat to our version. Stunning!
